Ahead of the release of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl this November, GSC Game World has released a lengthy developer deep dive, giving prospective players a peek into what the devs have been up to for the past fifteen years. This will mark the first Stalker game in 15 years since the release of Call of Pripyat in 2009.
First announced in 2010, Stalker 2 was initially planned to be released in 2012 before it was canceled. Resurfacing in 2018, the team once again announced a release date, this time for December 8, 2022. This was derailed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which put the game on hold.

“Chornobyl Exclusion Zone has changed dramatically after the second massive explosion in the year 2006,” the official description reads. “Violent mutants, deadly anomalies, and warring factions have made the Zone a very tough place to survive. It turned out that the center of the Zone hides the source of incredible power.
Nevertheless, artifacts of unbelievable value attracted many people called S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, who entered the Zone for their own risk striving to make a fortune out of it or even to find the Truth concealed in the Heart of Chornobyl.”
Earlier this month, it was announced that a Stalker 2 demo would appear at Gamescom 2024.
Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be released for Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG on November 20. It will also be available for Xbox Game Pass.
