Sometimes, you have to wonder if your hopes will be answered, and for those of a certain lawyer franchise, there were a certain pair of “outlier” titles that seemed to never be coming to the West in revamped form, even though all the other games in the series were ported and remastered on the Nintendo Switch and beyond. The good news is that those hopes and prayers have been answered! During the Nintendo Direct today, the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection was revealed, bring the entire Ace Attorney franchise onto the Switch in remastered form and giving fans even more cases to solve.
For those who are unaware of this particular side series, the “battles” take place not in the courtroom but out in the real world. Investigator, lawyer, and all-around genius Miles Edgeworth is put to the test when he’s asked to solve various crimes, including some of international implications! To solve them, he must use logic and literally put the pieces of the puzzle together to figure out what happened, who’s responsible, and how to stop them from enacting their plans.
This was a vastly different take on the series, and it got a cult following, which led to a sequel being made in Japan. That title was never released in the West…until now! That means that many people will get to see several new cases for the first time and meet a collection of new characters to boot!
One of the best parts of all of this is that the series is truly all together on one platform. The six main entries of the original series are here, and the “Great Ace Attorney” games that were once Japan-only titles were ported over a few years back. The games with Miles Edgeworth were the only ones not brought to modern systems, and many wondered if they were too “niche” to be upgraded. Capcom apparently didn’t think that was the case!
The real question is whether Capcom will see the love for this franchise in a new light and finally make a brand-new entry. It’s been many years since that happened, and there’s a dangling cliffhanger in the main series that still needs to be solved! Will it happen? What new cases await us when that happens?
We can’t say, but we can say that you should watch the reveal trailer for the new collection!
Ace Attorney Investigations Collection will arrive on Nintendo Switch on September 6th.
