You'd be forgiven for thinking that Alan Wake, the action thriller on the 360, was on its last legs. The first game took several years to make, went from being multi-platform to being an Xbox 360 exclusive and hardly burnt up the charts. Despite that, it got a fair following and, for those followers, its sequel, American Nightmare, has been long coming. It's an XBLA game.
With the PC re-release of the original game on its way and American Nightmare not a million miles away, it's fair to ask what happens next? Will Alan Wake disappear from our screens forever or will there be further adventures? Joystiq, in conversation with Remedy CEO Matias Myllyrinne, gives us a glimpse of the writer's future.
"Hopefully, we'll have one or two surprises. I don't know, I'm loving the digital [distribution] side and we'll see how that evolves, but just being able to give people quick access to bite-size chunks of gaming is maybe more fun than working for years and years — taking the phone offline and closing the shutters– at least, this way, you're able to react much more quickly to people's desires and wishes."
Do they know how much Alan Wake and PC would have to sell in order to get Alan Wake 2 on the go?
"I don't know. I don't know if that would dictate it. If it bombs [laughs], then that's certainly a signal, but we're fairly confident that it'll do well. We'll certainly continue with Wake. Right now we're focusing on getting the PC out next week, then getting American Nightmare out. And it's too early to talk about what our next move is, but we've obviously put things into motion."
