It’s interesting how the gaming world works sometimes. We say that because Sea Of Thieves came out five years ago as an Xbox exclusive from the team at Rare. It was a bold gambit for them as the team had never done a multiplayer-focused entry like this before. However, despite a slightly rough start, they were able to not just make the game a success but keep it that way for a long time. Fast forward to now, and the game has just gotten a new success via releasing on the PS5. As such, if you’ve been waiting to get your own ship and sail away, now is the time!
As shown on the PlayStation website, you pick between one of several versions of the game to get your high seas journey started. You can get the standard version, which is the main game, and some exclusive items. Or, you can get the Deluxe version, which includes the game, several items, and 10,000 gold. Or, you can get the Premium Edition, which gives you the game, all the items from the other editions, a “diabolical dog pet,” Season 12 content, and five days of early access to things! So, pick the one that is perfect for you before you set sail.
To those who haven’t played the game before, Rare’s pirate title is exactly what you think it is and more! You’ll create your own pirate character and then start traveling the ocean’s waves to see what is out there. You can focus on finding islands and getting the loot that is upon them, or you can see what secrets the world has to unlock! Or if you’re the kind of player that prefers action, there are plenty of enemies to fight, including battling other players in ship combat! Either way, you’ll have plenty to do between the main game and twelve seasons of content to enjoy.
One of the truest ironies about the arrival of Sea Of Thieves on PS5 is that not too long ago, another “large-scale pirate adventure” arrived on multiple platforms via Skull & Bones. This was Ubisoft’s attempt to make their own pirate game, which had been promised for many years. However, when the title came out, it wasn’t anything like what they promised, and it definitely wasn’t the “AAAA title” that the head of Ubisoft insisted it was to gamers. As such, more people were grateful for Rare’s title because it was a truly fun pirate game and one that they could keep playing without having numerous issues.
