A Gears of War voice actor shared an interesting teaser about Gears of War 6.
As shared on reddit by user Pebo_, a voice actor in Gears of War 5 essentially revealed that Microsoft would be revealing something explaining the ending of that game this June.
June had previously been E3 month, and remains the biggest month for video game promotion. Even with E3 gone, we still have events like Summer Games Fest, and Microsoft’s own Xbox Games Showcase. We already know many of Microsoft’s big releases for 2024 will finally be revealed in the Showcase this year, and we had already saw rumors going around that they would reveal something Gears of War related too.
We are going to have to discuss spoilers from here on in, because said voice actor talks directly about Gears of War 5’s ending. If you don’t want to read any spoilers, you can stop reading here.
Gears of War 5 would follow the story of three new protagonists: JD Fenix, Marcus’ biological son with Anya Stroid, Delmont Walker, Marcus’ adopted son, and Kait Diaz, who is the real main character in the game’s narrative.
Near the end of the game, the player, playing as Kait, has to choose to save either Delmont or JD. In previous Gears of War games, these player choices didn’t have a meaningful effect on the story, but in this case, you were really choosing one character to live, and one to die.
The voice actor we are talking about in this story is Liam J. Mcintyre, who played JD Fenix. When he was asked if his character’s death was canon, he replied on Twitter:
“I have no idea. I think @GearsofWar tells us all in June. :)”
Of course, with the way Liam even tagged the official Gears of War account, it was clear that he wasn’t worried about sharing this little tease for the Xbox Games Showcase. Not only did he know something was coming, he knew he could already talk about it, even for just a little bit.
But is this really Gears of War 6? It is possible that we get a Gears of War Collection updated to Xbox Series X|S. And that collection could bundle the original trilogy by Epic Games, and the two latest games by The Coalition. That collection’s version of Gears of War 5 could have a canon ending.
But if you really think about it, this convoluted sleight of hand really seems completely unlikely to happen. Microsoft would know better than to make their gamers feel like they were tricked, and why go through all this effort to trick gamers, when Microsoft could have been upfront if that’s what they were doing?
The circumstantial evidence really leans on a Gears of War 6 reveal, for this tweet by Liam to make sense. There could still be a Gears of War Collection that’s simply unrelated to what Liam is talking about. When that Gears of War 6 trailer hits, we are going to definitively see or hear Kait with either JD, or with Del, and we’ll know for sure then. Unless, of course, The Coalition came up with some other plot curveball that we can’t even imagine yet.
