Guardians of the Galaxy Skins and Emotes Coming To Fortnite

March 27, 2024 by Todd Black

Dance off, you and me, right now!

Oh, Fortnite, what haven’t we said about you at this point? Well, we’ve said quite a bit, to be honest with you, including how you keep bringing in new skins to ensure that fans never get bored of playing the game. It’s almost a routine at this point that a rumor about an upcoming skin gets announced, then someone dives into the code and finds out that the rumor was true, and then they post images or videos about the characters before they’re officially announced. Today that comes true for three members of the Marvel group, the Guardians of the Galaxy, as they are the next ones to come into the game.

As you’ll see in the tweet below, both the Marvel Cinematic Universe versions of the characters and the LEGO versions of the characters are coming to Fortnite in both versions. Clearly, they want to ensure that everyone gets a piece of the pie, as it were. The three members who will be in the game are Drax, Mantis, and the adult version of Groot. There will also be some special emotes for gamers to get, including the special dance that Baby Groot did while he was a potted plant at the end of the second movie.

If you’re unfamiliar with these characters, here’s a small breakdown of them.

Drax, aka “The Destroyer” is a character who has gained much more popularity thanks to his portrayal by Dave Bautista. His mission in life, both within the movies and the comics, was to get vengeance for the loss of his wife and daughter, who was killed by either Thanos or Ronan the Accuser depending on which version you’re talking about.

Groot is the beloved tree-man of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and yes, no matter what version you’re looking at, he only speaks in “I Am Groot.” However, despite his language deficiencies, he’s an invaluable member of the team, and he’s a powerhouse. Plus, he’s technically immortal, as he can regrow himself from even a sliver of bark.

As for Mantis, her character is the most different between the comic and MCU versions. In the MCU, she’s the daughter of Ego The Living Planet and the step-sister to Star-Lord. She can use her mental abilities to manipulate people or get them to do things like sleep.

It’s curious that the game didn’t bring these characters into the mix when their third movie came out in theaters last year, but perhaps the timing didn’t work out.
