The Resident Evil franchise is iconic and one of the pillars of the survival horror genre. However, we have quite a lengthy history here for the franchise, and if you had not been around since it first came out, you’d probably have missed out on playing some of these earlier games. Fortunately, Capcom had been returning and delivering remakes for some of these earlier installments, giving veteran fans another means to play them while providing a modern touch for newcomers. If this trend continues, Resident Evil 5 should be the next mainline installment to receive a remake.
So far, Capcom has only been going back to the mainline games to offer remakes. That means we’re not seeing any remakes quite yet for some of the side storylines that have been released over the years. The latest to come out was Resident Evil 4, which did well. Resident Evil 5 should be the next one on our plate, and today, we have new evidence to point towards a reveal coming soon.
Thanks to the folks over at Tech4Gamers, we’re finding out that Capcom has made an adjustment to Resident Evil 5 on Steam. This SteamDB activity has fans tuning in closely for a surprise Capcom announcement or a reveal at an upcoming event.
There’s nothing here officially yet, but as noted in the Tech4Gamers publication, there was similar activity to Resident Evil 4 on Steam before their remake announcement. That has us wondering if we’re getting close to a remake announcement on Resident Evil 5 and just what else might get teased from Capcom in regards to the franchise as a whole.
If you don’t recall, there were previous reports that Capcom had several Resident Evil projects in the works. Speculation was that we would receive a Resident Evil 5 remake and work being put onto the next mainline installment for the franchise. Currently, the storyline left off at Resident Evil Village, which did wrap up the story arc on the previous main protagonist, Ethan Winters.
But just what else could be in the works for Capcom when it comes to this iconic survival horror IP is anyone’s guess right now. We’ll have to watch for a new event announcement or if Capcom opts to show its own showcase to help highlight some of its upcoming projects.
As mentioned, the last mainline installment to have been released is Resident Evil Village, which picks up the narrative storyline from Resident Evil 7. Meanwhile, the last game to have been released from Capcom for the IP was the remake of Resident Evil 4. Something that was also recently touched on in a Japanese documentary series showcased the chaotic moments as the developers rushed to the finish line during their development process.
