At this point, you honestly have to sympathize with anyone who is within the Nintendo fanbase. They’re being hit on all sides by people claiming that they know what’s going to happen next with the company and the games that are going to come out for it. Currently, 2024 is a bit “light” on the big releases, with the vast majority of titles that have been confirmed for this year being remasters, remakes, and one original game starring Princess Peach. However, one longtime gaming insider now claims that The Pokemon Company is gearing up to announce not one but TWO “mainline” game releases for 2024.
That insider is none other than Zippo, who has been shooting his mouth off quite a bit recently and making all sorts of claims. While that isn’t illegal, and he has been right in the past, he also hasn’t been right about everything. Plus, to hear that The Pokemon Company is getting ready to launch TWO new games this year is a bit hard to believe for various reasons. But, he also “gives himself some leeway” by not fully stating what it means to be releasing “two mainline entries.”
For example, he could just mean that we could get more DLC for Gen 9, which is another rumor that has been popping up over the last several weeks. The one would make sense because there’s been talk about how the company wants to keep Gen 9 alive beyond what has already been released.
Another likely option is that we’ll finally get the remakes of Gen 5, which has also been long rumored to be happening. Gen 4 was already on the Switch, and it was a smashing success, so one doesn’t have to imagine that the publisher might be “intrigued” to continue that trend because we all know they would.
Another possibility is that they’ll build off the “Legends” brand that was first introduced in 2024 via the title starring Arceus. That game was a huge hit and helped spawn a new way of looking and playing in the world of Pokemon. Many hope that trend continues, but considering the game came out just over two years ago, one has to wonder if that’s enough time to develop a true sequel.
The Pokemon Company hasn’t been making waves regarding teases outside of the ones for the potential Gen 5 remake. They haven’t even confirmed that there’s going to be a “Pokemon Presents” show on February 27th like there has been the last several years. So only time will be the truth-teller here.
