We’ve known about the upcoming expansion to Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft for a while now. Known as Whispers of the Old Gods, developers Blizzard only stated that the expansion to their hit card strategy game would release sometime towards the end of April of early May. Now we have the official date on when you can get your hands on the new cards and the new formats heading to the game.
Whispers of the Old Gods is marked to release officially on April 26, 2016, for North America and Europe while Asia will receive the expansion on April 27, 2016. For those who may still be in the dark on this upcoming expansion, gamers will have the ability to craft and collect over a hundred new cards which are themed around gods within the Warcraft universe. So far, only a select few cards were shown off from Blizzard, but Blizzard will likely show off additional cards leading up to the expansion’s release.
This expansion currently is offering gamers a chance to pre-order a deck bundle that will give players fifty different packs within the Whispers of the Old Gods expansion. However, the pre-order bundle will be locked away until the expansion launches next week.
New formats will also be making their appearance with the launch of this expansion. The new formats for the game are known as Wild and Standard, both have been a bit controversial for longtime fans of the Hearthstone video game.
Essentially Wild format is the standard format gamers have been using today. This mode will allow all of the various cards and expansions that have already released. The new Standard mode will limit players by what cards they are able to use. If your deck has any cards from expansions or adventures that were released beyond the past two years then they will be banned from use.
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is currently available and completely free to play on the PC, iOS, and Android format.
