Masahiro Sakurai Announces The End Of His YouTube Channel

January 9, 2024 by Todd Black

…goodbye…for now?

In a world full of “familiar tactics” and moves, Masahiro Sakurai has been a man who has always gone by the beat of his own drum, and we mean that in the best way possible. He’s always been a guy who has thought about video games in a “different way,” which led to his incredibly successful career in the industry. Then, out of the blue, he announced that he was making a YouTube Channel called “Creating Games,” where he would reveal insights and beliefs about games and the industry itself to help the next generation of video game makers.

At first, gamers weren’t sure what to expect from the channel. But as time went on, Sakurai showcased his grand knowledge of video games and revealed all sorts of details and stylings that apply to many video games today. He never stated that his information or beliefs were “better than others,” but rather, he tried to give a generalized yet specific outlook on various topics ranging from the biggest things to the smallest details and why both matter. Sakurai even gave a behind-the-scenes look at the video games he’s made and what it took to make them.

But the reason we’re bringing up the channel today is that Masahiro Sakurai made a special community post on his YouTube Channel, and in it, he not only wished everyone a happy new year but said he was “wrapping up” the “Creating Games” channel this year! He didn’t give a specific reason for why he was going to shut down the project, but we can make a few guesses.

The one that many people will latch onto is that this proves he’s getting ready to make his next video game. If you recall, a recent video of his stated that he was still making games himself, though he didn’t elaborate on that. In the past, he’s talked about how he’s thrown himself into his work, even causing health problems at times as a result. Since making these videos can’t be easy, it would make sense for him to “wrap things up” so he could focus on video game development.

Another reason might be that he’s ‘run out of things to discuss.’ This is fair, given that there are only so many things you can give insights about before you become repetitive.

Either way, it will be said to see this go away because it was such a beautiful thing to see. But until it’s truly gone, we can still enjoy it.
