Former Nintendo Hacker Claims They Are Not Involved With MIG Switch

January 3, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

The MIG Switch could be a massive blow for Nintendo.

The hacking and jailbreaking scene will always be present. Some groups seek to open up platforms that give players access to a wide assortment of areas. One of which is the ability to play backup games. Now, there can be arguments that backups are fine if they are legally owned games. However, another massive group out there would seek out the ability to play pirated games. Typically, those on the Nintendo Switch platform would have to go through a few guides and specific hardware to ensure they can hack their system.

That will change soon if this MIG Switch proves to be real. There’s a new piece of hardware making waves online that will eliminate the need to jailbreak their Nintendo Switch consoles. Instead, this device looks like a typical Nintendo Switch cart with a slot to add an SD card. From there, it looks like players could drop in files for Switch games on the SD card and play them easily. As a result, the MIG Switch has become a significant product in the jailbreaking scene. However, we’re still waiting for the actual product to be released before we can see if this is legitimate.

Still, one person in particular is already claiming they have no involvement. Thanks to VGC, we’re finding out that Gary Bowser is claiming they are not working on the MIG Switch. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, this individual was recently involved in a public lawsuit against Nintendo. Found as a member of the hacking group Team Xecuter, Gary pled guilty to his involvement in selling console mods for the Nintendo Switch. That prompted him to pay a total of $10 million to Nintendo.

I am not involved with this stuff.

MIG Switch looks to be a major upset to Nintendo when it launches. Without worrying about firmware or any physical modifications to the device, this might be a quick seller. Of course, this comes during a time when we’ll likely see Nintendo move on to their next console. We haven’t seen the successor quite yet for the Nintendo Switch, but there has been plenty of speculation that we’ll see something within the year.

Meanwhile, when it comes to the MIG Switch, the device is not available to purchase yet according to the website. Instead, it looks like there is still the need for distributors to get the ball rolling. Currently, the website for the MIG Switch does expect some units to ship this month, with full availability available either in March or April of this year.
