Mobile Game Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis Gets ESRB Rating For PC

October 27, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

Square Enix seems to want to use this title to introduce Final Fantasy 7 to a new generation.

Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis has received an ESRB Rating, indicating that it is coming to PC.

This is a mobile gacha game that tries to retell the entire Final Fantasy 7 story, including its expansions, as well as some original new segments, in a simplified, beginner friendly manner. At its core, Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is still an action RPG.

The gacha elements are fully integrated to work with the game’s traditional RPG grind, so that you can play through the game without even spending a cent. Of course, the flip side to this is that paying for gacha will help you advance to the story much more quickly.

This review from Noisy Pixel notes that this released at a precarious time for Square Enix’s mobile gaming initiatives, as they have already cancelled many of their other mobile titles. That Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is getting a transition to PC suggests that Square Enix is dead set in ending their current mobile gaming run, and that they have enough faith in this game in particular to bring it to PC.

The ESRB rating for Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is T for Teen, with notes on Fantasy Violence, Mild Blood, Mild Language, and Suggestive Themes. It also provides this description of the game:

“This is a role-playing game in which players assume the roles of mercenaries and soldiers trying to save the planet from evil. From a third-person perspective, players explore towns, interact with characters, and battle various enemies (e.g., soldiers, creatures, machines) in turn-based combat.

Players use swords, guns, magic, and melee-style attacks to kill enemies. Battles are highlighted by screen-shaking effects, cries of pain, and colorful light effects. A handful of environments depict blood-like trails (usually blue) on the ground.

Cutscenes depict further instances of violence and/or blood: a creature with cuts and red stains; dead creatures engulfed in flames; soldiers shooting at characters.

Some female characters are designed with revealing outfits (e.g., deep cleavage, wet clothing that appears slightly transparent, bikinis in the battlefield). The words “jacka*s” and “bastard” appear in the game.”

As explained by GameRant, Square Enix did promise a PC port would be forthcoming, so these may simply be their plans moving forward as usual. It also seems likely that Square has hopes that this game in particular will introduce Final Fantasy 7 to a new generation of gamers, while the AAA remake trilogy is marketed towards their older fans. It will be interesting to see if Square Enix decides to also bring this game to consoles in the future, such as the Nintendo Switch.
