It was a real surprise when Sony randomly dropped the news of a PlayStation 5 Slim. We’ve seen plenty of reports online that this new model was in the works. There were also rumors that a new PlayStation 5 digital version console would deliver a means to attach a physical disc drive to the console later on. Those rumors proved to be true as Sony released the news ahead of any event or stream showcase. Of course, while the console was shrunk down in size, there was at least one area fans immediately pointed out.
This new PlayStation 5 console doesn’t come with a stand like the original unit. If you recall, the PlayStation 5 was shipped with a stand that would allow players to stand the PlayStation 5 vertically or lay it horizontally. We know that with this new PlayStation 5 Slim model hitting the marketplace later this year, you’ll have to purchase a stand separately if you want to stand your PlayStation 5 console up. That said, a built-in feature allows your new PlayStation 5 Slim model to lay flat. It’s this little stand that had players making fun of the design choice from Sony.

In particular, fans are pointing out the fact that the stand looks incredibly small compared to the rest of the PlayStation 5 console. This is also rather bizarre because the PlayStation 5 is supposed to be smaller than the current console models. Of course, it would be easier to see the new stand’s size once it becomes available in the marketplace and comparison videos can be made.
If you missed out on the news, Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 Slim models, which are slated to launch in November. We didn’t get a specific release date for the new models. However, we know that the PlayStation 5 Slim will cost the consumer $499.99 while the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will run $449.99. As mentioned, the new PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will have a feature where you can install a physical disc drive to the console if you wish to play physical media. That component would be released sometime later on for $79.99. Furthermore, the new upcoming models are said to be reduced by more than 30% volume, and their weight dropped by 18% and 24% compared to the current PlayStation 5 units.
