Arcadian Atlas is an Isometric Tactical RPG Worth Checking Out

April 8, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

Here’s one isometric RPG you should take a look at.

Arcadian Atlas
is a new game from small indie developer Twin Otter Studios, which promises to deliver tactical RPG gameplay with character driven narrative and strategic grid-based battles. The game’s developers recently took to Kickstarter to fund the title, and they’re only asking for $80,000 to make it a reality. The game is also on Steam Greenlight.

“Twin Otter Studios’ mission with Arcadian Atlas is to create the tactics RPG we always wanted to play ourselves,” said Becca Bair, Co-Founder & Creative Director at Twin Otter Studios.

According to the developer, Arcadian Atlas is a 2D isometric tactical RPG about “the choices people make in pursuit of the things they love, and the havoc it wreaks on a kingdom.”

Arcadian Atlas’ visuals are in isometric pixel art form, similar to titles like Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics. Twin Otter Studios intends for the game to be a fresh take on the classic strategy RPG style, designed from the ground up to incorporate more challenging battle strategies. Like those games, it’s heavy on narrative. The game also offers a jazz infused soundtrack, which isn’t something you hear in games very often.

Twin Otter Studios is an independent studio started in 2015 by siblings Taylor and Becca Bair. They’ve participated in multiple game jams and created a 5-hour indie RPG called “Genesis.” Judging from the visuals and material Twin Otter Studios has shown off, the developers clearly have the talent to deliver on their promise.

You can support Arcadian Atlas on Kickstarter.
