Aliens: Colonial Marines was first announced in early 2008 and, after four years of waiting, horror fans expected to be able to play it in Spring 2012. This is no longer the case, the squad-based shooter designed to fill in the blanks between Aliens and Alien 3 has officially been delayed into the Autumn.
In a statement to the Official Xbox 360 Mag, a Gearbox rep explains why:
"Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention and those don't necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line. While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective.
"We don't want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritising this goal over the previously targeted date."
With offline co-op and Aliens by the bucket-load, here's hoping that things are sorted sooner rather than later and we can get our teeth (and smaller, more lethal teeth) into what is no doubt going to be an awesome game.
