With Metal Gear Rising: Revengence sporting a new title and developer, it's unclear exactly how much of what we saw in earlier public demos will make it into the finished product. Thanks to a new batch of details from the Japanese gaming press, we've got a slightly clearer picture of what exactly this new version of Rising will entail.
The first major news is the confirmation that Rising will be a single-player only title, courtesy of the latest issue of Japanese mag Dengeki PlayStation. While hardly surprising — the franchise has never placed much emphasis on multiplayer, and all of Platinum's titles to date have only supported solo play —that might come as a disappointment to anyone who was hoping to slice their friends into a hundred little pieces.
In addition, a host of other small details surfaced in the latest episode of the official Kojima Productions podcast. Most interesting is the news that the contentious "cut anything" mechanic that killed the first version of the game hasn't been scrapped outright, and you'll still be able to slice and dice almost everything you encounter in the game.
The game's highly touted Zan Datsu system, in which Raiden can cut his enemies to pieces and harvest the parts, has been similarly tweaked. Now it's more dynamic and faster paced, so you won't have to worry about resource management breaking up the flow of combat..
As for the game's story? We already knew Rising would be taking place sometime after Metal Gear Solid 4, but we'll also get to hear about what happened in between the two games, including how Raiden came to look the way he does. Expect fewer cutscenes and more CODEC conversations, in keeping with the game's fast-paced attitude.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengence will get is first playable demo at E3 in June.
Thanks, The Silent Chief.
