Lucasfilm and Disney have released a two-minute long teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is set to arrive in cinemas just in time for Christmas. You can check it out above.
The trailer debuted on Good Morning America earlier today and begins with Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso as a list of her crimes are read out. Asked why she wants to join the fight against the Empire, she says “This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.” It certainly seems she can hold her own as we see her fighting a squad of stormtroopers in an alley, she’s also been on her own since she was 15 so it’ll be interesting to see how Erso works with a team.
Actor Diego Luna, whose character is not named, also appears and we get glimpses of Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen (both of whom are on the Rebels’ side) and Ben Mendelsohn who appears to be working for the Empire.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One is the first standalone anthology feature in the Star Wars franchise. It will be followed next year by Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2017 and the Han Solo spinoff movie in 2018.
There’s no sign of the bothan spies, many of whom were said to have died stealing the plans for the Death Star in the original trilogy, but perhaps they’re just so good that if you’d seen them, they would have failed as spies.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives on the silver screen on December 16th.
