Since Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was announced years back, gamers have been eager to get their hands on it. They had to wait a while, but by the end of 2022, they could experience Ubisoft’s passion as they took Mario and the Rabbids into space to face all-new threats. Fast forward to now, and the game has already had multiple DLC additions, with the final one on its way. The final DLC story is special because it features Ubisoft icon Rayman returning to the video game space for the first time in many years. He’ll team up with Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Mario to take down a familiar foe.
But what we are focusing on today is a message by Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope creative director Davide Soliani. He went onto Discord, which was screenshotted and put onto Twitter, to deliver a message to fans. Soliani revealed that this DLC package was special because he worked on a Rayman title back in 1999 when he first joined Ubisoft. He helped make the animations and the levels for the Game Boy Color title Rayman starred in, and it’s always been special for him.
So, for him to be able to bring back Rayman in a modern title like this is a dream come true. But that’s not the only thing he said. At the end of the message, he noted that if you were to 100% complete the DLC, you’ll hear a “secret message.”
Fans are going to speculate what this means, and for good reason. One does not simply put in a “secret message” if it’s not something meaningful. The easy answer is that they could be teasing a new Rayman title they’re making. Many gamers have wondered if the Rayman DLC is a “soft launch” for the return of the franchise, given the Rabbids’ success after their collaboration with Mario.
We won’t know until the Rayman in the Phantom Show DLC arrives on August 30th.
While the mystery of the “secret message” will hang on fans’ minds for a while, another thing that will lurk in their minds is the question of what happens with the franchise next. The head of Ubisoft has made it clear that sales weren’t “what the company wanted,” and yet some of the team feel that the sales will be fine over time as people will continue to buy the game.
Many hope a third title does come because the unique collaboration has been a joy to play.
