Splatoon 3 fans have been having a blast recently as they’ve been getting plenty of content to play and hearing about new content they’ll get to enjoy soon enough. Not too long ago, we had the “Love/Money/Fame” Splatfest that ended in a shocking win for Money, which many fans protested in jest. But then, right after that, Nintendo revealed the game’s next “season” and the Splatfest that would drop in early September. This was a first, as far as we can tell, as they usually like to space out the announcements of the Splatfests, but not this time!
The upcoming Splatfest will put the members of the group Deep Cut against one another as you’ll need to pick between Shiver, Frye, and Big Man to claim who would be the best leader of the group. Many fans were curious about why this particular Splatfest was coming around the first anniversary of the game’s release. Why? Usually, when the music group of the games go up against one another, it’s at the end of the Splatfest cycle so that they can help influence the next title whenever it comes out. But here, that’s not the case.
However, Nintendo and the team at Squid Research Labs have provided a reason for things to go down as they are. A new music track will be available during the Splatfest called “Betrayal.” You can hear the track below, and unlike previous tracks, you can see some interactions between Shiver, Frye, and Big Man, and they’re not positive.
Long-time Splatoon 3 players know that a mysterious collaboration between the OG group of the series, The Squid Sisters, and a person calling themselves “Ian BGM” hit the Splatfest airways a few months back. Obviously, that was Big Man doing a solo track with the Squid Sisters. At first, fans just thought it was a cool way for the two games to be connected. However, this doesn’t amuse Shiver and Frye, and they razz Big Man throughout the song.
So it’s likely that this Splatfest has been caused by the discord that is going on within the group.
How it plays out, and whether this will continue to build up throughout future Splatfests, remains to be seen. However, it will be fun to watch.
No matter what, on September 1st, the “Drizzle Season” content for the game will arrive. It’ll bring new gear, clothing, stages, and challenges for gamers to enjoy.
