S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has been officially delayed to Q1 2024.
As reported by Gematsu, developer GSC Game World has released a new fact sheet, that shares this and other details about the game.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be releasing on Xbox Series X|S and Windows via Steam and Epic Games Store. It will also be Day One on Game Pass.
With all that out of the way, it is a point of interest to share what other details GSC Game World have shared about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. They describe these as the game’s key points:
- Play a major part in a branching cinematic story that unfolds in the setting of a local post-apocalyptic dark science fiction landscape.
- Experience one-of-a-kind gameplay, featuring the elements of a first-person shooter, immersive sim, and horror.
- Survival mechanics that hinge on searching for crucial and valuable supplies: food, drinks, meds to survive the harsh conditions, (un)natural hazards and hostile locals.
- Shed light on the dark secrets of these lands, hunt mutants, and explore the mysterious anomalies in search of precious artifacts with game changing affinities.
- Try to survive in tactical firefights against various enemies and more than 30 firearm models, yours to upgrade and customize.
- Experience benchmark-setting graphics powered by the Unreal Engine 5.
So, did you realize this is the first time we are hearing about many of these details of the game? Perhaps some fans hadn’t know that GSC Game World had been keeping details close to their chest for the extended period of development that this project had experienced. While we won’t recap every struggle that GSC Game World went through here, you can read about most of what they experienced here. You can just imagine how monumental a struggle it was considering they planned this sequel all the way back in 2010.
That probably also means this new game is completely different than the one they originally set about to make, and had to contend with all these new games, and the changes in the industry, that had occurred in the time between.
Just to give you an idea, between 2010 and this year, these open world games saw release and success:
- Far Cry 3
- The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Forza Horizon 3
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Marvel’s Spider-Man
And both Red Dead Redemption games.
The original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games were comparatively short, somewhat tedious, but very intriguing sandboxes that placed gamers in a particular vision of a postapocalyptic world that preceded the Bioshocksi and Borderlands universes. This return to that world promises quite a few new things alongside something familiar. We are looking forward to seeing what GSC Game World has managed to pull off, and you should be too.
