Disney has revealed that a Beauty and The Beast Realm is coming to Disney Dreamlight Valley.
As reported by Dexerto, Belle will be an unlockable Disney princess on this realm as well. The realm will be releasing this September.
The 1991 Beauty and the Beast film should need no introduction. As part of the Disney Renaissance, it is one of the most famous and successful Disney animated movies ever made, and now stands as the most well known version of the French fairy tale, that can trace its publication history to as far back as 1740.
In the animated film, Belle agrees to stay in a castle with the selfish beast in his castle, in exchange for her father’s freedom. Belle later learns that the castle is filled with the beast’s servants, turned into everyday objects. The Beast struggles to make Belle love him, to break the curse he and his servants face.
So most of you know probably already know this story, but I’m retelling it to provide context for the upcoming Beauty and The Beast Realm. This film in particular is such fertile ground for Disney Dreamlight Valley, because Gameloft can make so many elegant, sumptuous, and elaborate furniture for fans to earn in the game.
Aside from that, they can also make great clothing themed around Belle and the Beast, as well as the patterns in the form of flooring, wallpaper, and motifs.
Some fans are hopeful that the Beauty and The Beast Realm will also have some of the household objects as characters in the game as well. Thus far, Disney hasn’t confirmed this yet, but they will have a large supporting cast of characters that they can add in.
The famous four, of course, are Lumiere, the lightstick, Cogsworth, the mantle clock, and Mrs. Potts and Chip, a teapot and teacup mother and son duo. Outside of the film but used more prominently in other adaptations were the Wardrobe, the Stove, the Featherduster, and Sultan, the castle dog who turned into a doglike footstool.
Unfortunately, we also have to note that many of the actors who portrayed these characters have passed on, and won’t be able to record new lines for the game. Jerry Orbach, who played Lumiere, David Ogden Stiers, who was Cogsworth, and Angela Lansbury, who was Mrs. Potts, might have enjoyed being a part of this project, but we may only get older voice lines or soundalike actors.
Now, Disney Dreamlight Valley doesn’t really have fully voiced scenes, as characters either say one or a few words or just make sounds to express emotions. But this was notable as it could be a reason for Gameloft not to use these particular characters.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is on Early Access on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Windows on Steam and Epic Games Store.
