For some of you, not having an offline mode or bots seems pretty understanding for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game. It’s a PvP-focused title with a mix of a murderous family and survivors seeking an escape. However, you might have assumed a feature would be implemented since Gun Interactive also brought out Friday the 13: The Game. This title also featured an offline game mode where players could go through some matches with nothing but bots. Unfortunately, that won’t be the case for this upcoming horror multiplayer game.
The folks over at MP1ST managed to speak with Gun Interactive about their upcoming release, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. During their conversations, it was asked if this game would receive an offline mode similar to Friday the 13th: The Game. But according to a statement, no consideration was made as this feature alone would have taken the development team too much time. In particular, as mentioned, it’s a feature they had experience with in the past, but that is incredibly time-consuming.
We did not consider offline bots for this title. We learned a lot from Friday the 13th and the time that is required to make a feature like that. Believable bots in games are incredibly time consuming and difficult to do well. This would have cut our main game features back dramatically, thus impacting the overall experience we wanted to create. That was our focus. Push the asymmetrical horror genre forward as much as possible. And that comes from an unwavering goal of creating a unique PvP experience steeped in the world of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

So, the developers didn’t have the time to create this offline game mode and believable bots. Doing so would have meant cutting back on several other features they worked through. But even though this offline game mode with bots is not coming to the title at launch, it may mean the game mode will arrive post-launch. We don’t know just what the developers have planned exactly after this game arrives. So it might allow the developers to chip away at this feature for an update down the road.
While we don’t know what the studio has planned for after the game, we know it would be a battle pass system. It was already confirmed that the game wouldn’t adopt that post-launch content model. Instead, we’re going to get more traditional DLC. But again, we don’t know just what that DLC will end up being.
If you haven’t been keeping tabs on this game, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre follows two teams of players. On one team, players will be members of a family consisting of individuals like the Hitchhiker or Leatherface. Their goal is to hunt down the survivors located around the map. Meanwhile, the survivors are forced into hiding from sight and completing objectives that will allow their escape. Currently, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is set to launch on August 18, 2023. When the game does release, you’ll find it available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
