It’s hard to believe that it’s already almost been a week since San Diego Comic-Con started up. The event may not have been the “all-consuming event” it had been in the past, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t anything to do at the show. Case in point, many comic panels and vendors saw their business boom because fans were willing to check out their tables and content versus simply going to the “big Hollywood stuff.” Another thing that happened was that video game panels took the show by storm, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 having a panel for fans to enjoy.
It was called “Symbiotic Relationships,” and it not only showed off a new story trailer for the game featuring the rise of Venom but talked about the ins and outs of making the game from the perspectives of the dev team and the voice actors. Obviously, not many people could see the panel as they weren’t able to go to SDCC. If you were one of those people, Insomniac Games and Sony were able to shorten the panel to about 16-minutes, and you can watch that “abridged” version of the panel below:
Plenty of things were revealed during the panel, including a new custom PS5 and controller that players will definitely want to get while they’re in stock. If they’re still in stock, that is. However, the story trailer and the dev team’s reveals were the biggest things.
For example, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will start with the trio of Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Mary Jane Watson not exactly being at their best in all the ways that matter. On the one hand, their “hero lives” are arguably at their peak, given that they’re doing all they can for New York City.
But on the other hand, their personal lives are struggling due to personal decisions and how they’re choosing to “balance themselves.”
So when Kraven the Hunter shows up, things get bad. Then, when the Venom symbiote infects Peter, things only get worse. But Peter’s not the only one who will have a “dark day,” as Miles Morales will get to confront Martin Li, AKA Mr. Negative, and that might not go well either.
The struggle to both save the day and maintain their humanity might be the biggest struggle for the Spider-Men. Will they be able to do both? Or will one or both be pushed over the edge and not come back from it? We’ll find out on October 20th!
