It was quite divisive when it was announced that The Witcher Season 3 would be divided into two parts. It wasn’t the first time that Netflix had done this, as they’ve separated their shows in the past for various reasons, not the least being production time issues. Either way, the final episodes of Season 3 are on the way this Thursday, and many fans hope they’ll both answer questions and make them feel more comfortable about what’s to happen after. Specifically, we’re talking about the end of the line for Henry Cavill, which is teased in a new trailer that dropped today.
You can find the trailer below, and you’ll see that the action in these final episodes will be plentiful compared to what came before. We won’t spoil too much about the first part of Season 3, but we will give you the synopsis for it in case you need a refresher:
“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”
A very dramatic first part indeed, and Part 2 won’t be any less dramatic, as the trailer below indicates:
The problem in many fans’ minds is that Henry Cavill IS Geralt of Rivia, and they don’t want to see him leave. Just as important, the team behind the show has said that they have a “meta” and “clever” way of making it so that they can transition from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth, and the way they’ve phrased it makes it seem like a “multiversal solution” to their problem.
Once fans heard this, they rioted online, as the books don’t deal with a multiverse in the traditional sense, so there aren’t “lots of Geralt lookalikes” out there. That hasn’t deterred the crew, who already praise Liam Hemsworth in the role.
For example, an executive producer noted to Express Online that they’ve already seen Hemsworth in makeup:
“One thing I can tell is I’ve already seen [Liam] in Witcher makeup. And in the Witcher look. And he looks awesome.”
Whether fans think the rest of The Witcher Season 3 is awesome remains to be seen.
