San Diego Comic-Con is happening today and continuing until Sunday. If you feel that things haven’t been “as hyped up” as before, there’s a reason for that. The current writers’/actors’ guild strikes have crippled the event in many ways, as actors cannot attend this event in a professional capacity to promote their upcoming projects. So companies like Marvel and DC Comics won’t be at the event. However, a loophole is that voice actors aren’t tied to this restriction, and thus several video games are making an appearance at the show. One of them being Mortal Kombat 1.
The game is easily one of the most anticipated titles of the year, and so its SDCC panel will be one that many will attend. The best part is that co-creator Ed Boon went onto Twitter and teased that there will be plenty going on at said panel:
It’s not too much of a surprise that the dev team and voice actors will be there to highlight the game and the fun they had making it. Learning more about the process of “rebuilding the world” based on Liu Kang’s new powers will be interesting to hear. However, the key thing that fans will pay attention to is the multiple trailers that will drop.
Based on the breakdown, we’re getting a “game trailer,” likely meaning a story trailer that will tease more characters. Then we’ll get a “gameplay trailer” to show off some more brutality that the game will feature. But what could the “surprise” trailer be?
The easy answer is that we’ll get a trailer teasing the DLC characters who are likely coming. These potential Kombatants have been teased for some time, including known entities like Homelander, Omni-Man, and Peacemaker.
Another potential “surprise” would be a tease for the upcoming sequel to the 2021 live-action reboot of the franchise. However, filming only recently started on that, so it would be a stretch to think they already have something together.
Either way, NetherRealm Studios is putting together something special for fans, who will undoubtedly enjoy it.
What many are enjoying the most is hearing the details surrounding Liu Kang’s “new world.” Katana and Mileena are sisters, while Scorpion and Sub-Zero are now brothers. We’re seeing teases of the familiar mixed with tinges of something fresh and exciting. But just how big will Liu Kang’s vision go? What will try to bring it down around him? The panel might reveal those answers and more before the release of Mortal Kombat 1.
