Final Fantasy XVI Script Length Revealed

June 22, 2023 by Todd Black

Oh yeah, you’ll be in this story for a while!

Today is a day that has been many years in the making because today is the day that Final Fantasy XVI has finally arrived on PlayStation 5. The game isn’t just the next mainline entry in the beloved RPG franchise. Instead, the game is what fans could potentially look forward to from this franchise from here on out. The game was built to be different in many ways outside of its stunning PS5 graphics. The combat system has been overhauled once again, and just as important, the story for the game is much more robust and “epic” in scale. Not that others weren’t grand in scale, but some differences can be seen here.

If you don’t believe us, you need only look at the Twitter posting of writer Yuuya Uchida. He went to Twitter and took a picture of himself alongside a massive stack of papers. As his tweet notes, those papers are the script for the main storyline featuring Clive! So yeah, it will take you quite a while to get through this story and all it offers.

But given its large-scale fantasy stylings and intent, that shouldn’t come off as too much of a surprise. Even those who played the demo noted that the game’s story was easy to be hooked into, and that was only the opening few hours. So now imagine what it’s like once you get into the “nitty-gritty” of the game’s plot, and experience the various things the characters will do.

Now that the game is out, people were curious about what many would feel about it. Thankfully for Square Enix, the word from Metacritic is that this is a fantastic title. Currently, Final Fantasy XVI has an 88 on Metacritic.

Just as important, as of today, that score for PS5 comes after 100 reviews! That means quite a few people were up for reviewing it on their PS5s. Perhaps Square Enix gave out more keys than usual to help spread the word about their title, given that there had been some “misgivings” leading up to this year.

Of the 100 reviews, 93 were “Positive,” while the other seven were “mixed.” That’s not too bad a balance, and an 88 means it’s a truly great game in their eyes.

Many cited it as a “breath of fresh air” while praising the “dark, yet mature storyline” and the changes to the combat. So if you’ve been hesitant to get the game, you should feel that fear being lifted off you now.
