The Summer Game Fest is on! And the first trailer they dropped was a new game from Ubisoft from a classic franchise! Prince of Persia The Lost Crown has been announced! This is a surprise for many people, given that there have been many rumors about this franchise over the years. The big one was that there was supposed to be a remake of the first title to help bring things back to the beginning and try to restart things. However, as this announcement reveals, things will be much different than you expect. Check out the reveal trailer below:
So let’s break this down, shall we? The first thing you’ll notice is that this isn’t the prince that you know. It’s a new character that is part of a group known as “Immortals,” and they’re going after the prince after he’s been kidnapped. According to the trailer, the prince is taken to a “Forbidden Land,” and the Immortals must travel there to get him back.
Another thing you’ll see is that the game is going to its roots by making it a side-scrolling action title that will be having you bounding around, using various weapons, and taking on all sorts of enemies. This will make fans happy as the franchise has taken various turns regarding gameplay for better and for worse. So to go “back to basics” here and see how things play out is probably for the best.
Arguably one of the more unique things here is the visuals. Many titles nowadays are pushing for their visuals to be “super realistic,” with high-quality graphics headlining their titles. But with Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, you’re seeing more of a stylized look, and that’s not exactly a bad thing. The game looks solid enough, and if they focused more on gameplay versus graphics, the quality overall might be better than you think.
Plus, we’ve all seen games recently that focused too much on graphics and then didn’t optimize them for the machines they were on, and it didn’t work out well for them.
Sadly, the information that we have ends there. However, the upcoming Ubisoft Showcase will apparently have more details when it debuts next week.
If this title works out, the franchise may come back into the fold and be one of Ubisoft’s big hits again. The fact that it already has a release date of next January is definitely a plus.
