Well, I complained last week that January has been an awful month for games news and then, with one announcement, all of that seems to have turned around. You see, we have a new handheld console on the way and, if you hadn't just read the title and the teaser above, you'd never have guessed what it was.
The Neo-Geo Pocket 2 has been unveiled, a follow-up to the original console of 1998 and the colour version of 1999. Bragging a decidedly iPhone shape, an SD card slot and, wait for it, a brightness slider, the new SNK portable also comes pre-loaded with twenty classic SNK games to get you started. If nothing else, the price for this entire console is probably cheaper than buying the games individually from the PlayStation Store.
Games ready loaded on the console are:
- World Heroes
- Ultimete 11
- Top Player’s Golf
- Sengoku
- Nam-1975
- Mutation Nation
- Last Resort
- King of Monsters
- Frenzy
- Cyber Lip
- Fatal Fury Special
- Art of Fighting
- Super Sidekicks
- League Bowling
- Metal Slug
- Magical Lord
- Baseball Stars Professional
- Samurai Shodown
- King of Fighters ’94
- Fatal Fury
The colour version of the original sold a tiny two million units on its original run, but many of the games have acquired something of a fan following meaning, at the right price and at the right time, this "sequel" could be a far more successful outing.
