Dota 2‘s Spring 2016 patch doesn’t add much in the way of new content, but it does go a long way towards making the game more accessible to both newcomers and veterans of the game with a ton of quality-of-life improvements.
The update doesn’t include any new heroes, rebalancing or gameplay content, but it does come with a number of big changes to the user interface. There are new indicators for Neutral Spawn creep locations whenever Observer and Sentry Wards are placed on the map. Hotkeys for camera control, which can be particularly useful for players who want to keep a vigilant watch over the battlefield, as well as casters. You’ll also be able to browse the entirety of the in-game store within the Dota 2 client.
The Armory has received a significant overhaul with a new section to view newly acquired items and other improvements to make it much easier to use. Base slots in the Armory have also been increased from 1080 to 10000, and the maximum number has been raised from 24000 to 34000.
Players will also be able to bind abilities to specific hotkeys on a per-hero basis. This should help any player who wishes to customize their experience.
In terms of gameplay-specific improvements, minimap icons have also been updated to indicate the direction in which an enemy unit is facing. Towers will now indicate their maximum attack ranges and the targets they’re focused on.
Finally, players will be able to mute a player’s voice and text communication independently. You might not want to hear someone talk, but you’d still want to see them type.
