GamesBeat has published a rumor stating that sources within Capcom have confirmed the development of Resident Evil 6. According to those inside sources, the game features heroes Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy as its main characters, and will also see a return of Ada Wong in some form.
Previous speculation suggested that the development of the game had been handed over to an unnamed Western developer, but the new information says that the game is, for a fact, being developed in-house at the Japanese studio.
According to the insider, Resident Evil 6’s development team is aiming for a cross between the action and horror blend of Resident Evil 4 based on feedback the company received for the action-heavy Resident Evil 5.
It remains to be seen whether the rumor proves true, but a recent viral campaign certainly bolsters the case.
Capcom is holding a “Fright Club” event today to promote Resident Evil: Revelations for the 3DS and the co-op multiplayer game, Operation Raccoon City. We’ll report back to see if they decide to make a surprise announcement of Resident Evil 6 at the event.
