Long before Saints Row was pummeling us with crude and unsavoury humor, a game called Conker’s Bad Fur day was sending parents into panic. But was it censored at all? Not as much as you might think.
Chris Seavor, the director of the game who formerly worked at Rare, spoke with Gamika about the classic game, and it looks like there were a few things that didn’t quite make it in the end.
“Stuff in CBFD did get censored, whole cutscenes in fact, but on reflection i could see how some people might be offended. Pokemon had to come out, and i was annoyed about that one because it was quite a funny cutscene. Gone forever now.”
“Pretty much 99.9% of the game remained however. Oh yeah, there was a joke at the expense of the KKK, which had to come out too. Hmm, never did understand why Nintendo were apprehensive about offending a group of curiously dressed racists, odd !!”
That’s a little weird, considering the game allows you to do battle with a giant poo and even had it’s own WWII parody.
One of the earliest games to add to the ‘games I can’t believe weren’t banned in Australia’ list.
