Those of you who swore never to touch Origin might need to get ready to eat your words, because it’s going to be a compulsory part of Mass Effect 3.
Bioware’s Chris Priestly has confirmed on the BioWare Social Network forums that the game will require Origin to run. Not only that, but the highly anticipated finale to the trilogy will be available from a number of other outlets… except for Steam.
“Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content,” Priestly said, explaining why the game wouldn’t be available from the outlet, despite the developer previously launching titles and DLC through the service.
Given EA’s push to see Origin become a formidable rival to Steam, though, can anyone say they’re really that surprised? This is something fans have been speculating since the launch of Origin.
Mass Effect 3 will require a connection to Origin for a one-time activation, but won’t have a limit on installations.
