Grand Theft Auto 6 Industry Insider Claims Current-Gen Consoles Caused The Delay

March 7, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Rockstar Games held the game back for the latest console platforms?

There is a never-ending slew of rumors, speculation, and supposed leaks regarding Grand Theft Auto 6. Players have been waiting for the next major installment to get its proper announcement finally. Likewise, we’ve been waiting on just when we could expect the game to hit the marketplace. While that has yet to happen, we have another rumor to ponder about. One credible industry insider has claimed that there’s another reason why Rockstar Games has yet to make a proper unveiling into the marketplace. If this rumor is to be believed, there’s a chance that Rockstar Games was waiting on the current-generation platforms.

Recently, there was a rumor that came out from another credible source. If you recall, the rumor that spread like wildfire online was that Rockstar Games was pushing the game to a release window of 2024. In order to get this game out in a timely matter, it was said that Rockstar Games was cutting some content. Now that content cut could come back into the game through DLC, but again this is all speculation and rumors. But today, Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming has made a comment on why there is a long gap between installment releases. Tom Henderson has been a reliable industry insider, and he claims that his own sources stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 would release on current-generation consoles only.

As a result, the delay came all the way back in 2021 when Rockstar Games wanted to ensure that there was a sufficient console market to release the game on. With the latest-generation console platforms releasing during a worldwide pandemic, there were quite a few obstacles both Microsoft and Sony had to overcome. For instance, there was a lack of parts to manufacture consoles, factories were shut down, and it was tough sending units out worldwide. That prompted several retailers to have a difficult time keeping stock available for their consumers. But fortunately, those days are behind us now, and consumers can obtain consoles without the headaches and upcharges.

Perhaps there is now a stable market of console platforms that could prompt the release and successful sale of Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto 6. With Grand Theft Auto V being a behemoth of a video game release and even breaking some records when it finally launched, the bar is set incredibly high for its successor. But again, we’re still waiting on this game installment’s official announcement and reveal.
