Plenty of hype is built around the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy 16. Players are eager to dive into this next fantasy RPG installment, but if you are one of the few hoping a PC port is coming shortly after its PlayStation 5 debut, you’re out of luck. The producer for Final Fantasy 16, Naoki Yoshida, took to the official PlayStation blog with VGC reporting on the translated version, unveiled that there are no plans to release Final Fantasy 16 after the immediate end of Sony’s six-month exclusive deal. Instead, there is more focus on ensuring the game is optimized for the PlayStation 5 hardware.
We know that Final Fantasy 16 is set to launch into the marketplace on June 22, 2023. When that game does hit the marketplace, you’re going to find it exclusively for the PlayStation 5. That’s not much of a surprise, as we knew beforehand that Sony had a six-month exclusivity deal with Square Enix’s upcoming RPG installment. But that might have persuaded some players into thinking that Square Enix was going to release a PC port of the game shortly after the exclusive deal comes to an end with Sony’s PlayStation 5. That’s not the case as the Final Fantasy 16 producer, Naoki Yoshida, unveiled that they had spent all their time ensuring the game was optimized specifically for the PlayStation 5 console platform.
The PlayStation 5 is a machine powerhouse. Several development studios have dialed in to ensure they are getting the most out of the PlayStation 5 for their various video game title releases. So again, we’re not surprised that Square Enix honed in on the PlayStation 5 hardware when it came to the development of Final Fantasy 16. But because it was so closely optimized with the PlayStation 5, a PC port will take quite a bit of time to pull off. According to Naoki Yoshida’s comments, it seems that the studio is interested in eventually releasing a PC version of the game.
But overall, getting the game optimized for the PC is going to take quite a bit of time. At the very least, we know it will take more time than just six months. So, for now, it looks like those of you who want to enjoy Final Fantasy 16 might have to stick with the PlayStation 5 platform. Again, that title installment is set to launch on June 22, 2023. In the meantime, you can check out the game trailer in the video we have embedded above.
