Ever since its launch in November, gamers have been thinking about the potential DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Such thoughts were in their minds because, in the previous generation, The Pokemon Company brought a two-part DLC to bear that heavily expanded the Galar region, added new trainers and Pokemon to meet, and allowed for ever more fun to be had. At the Pokemon Presents presentation, the team finally pulled back the curtain and revealed a new two-part DLC called “The Hidden Treasure Of Area Zero.” But despite the name, the DLC is taking you beyond Paldea for two different reasons.
The first DLC will be called “The Teal Mask” and will feature you and your schoolmates going to a new land to partake in a special festival outside of Paldea. There, you’ll meet a set of new Pokemon, one of which is a legendary known for wearing a special mask.
Then, in “The Indigo Disk,” you’ll travel to Blueberry Academy as an exchange student. Once there, you’ll interact with your new classmates and eventually search for a special legendary Pokemon beneath the waves!
The story within this two-part DLC will connect, but how it will connect remains to be seen. Furthermore, seeing how these new places tie back to Area Zero will be curious. To refresh your memory, Area Zero is the place in Paldea where the Paradox Pokemon live. There, the Professors from each game built their time machines to “summon” the Pokemon of the past and future to roam the area and potentially go into greater Paldea.
In the main campaign, you eventually destroy the time machine to ensure that the time-traveling Pokemon don’t overwhelm the species in the present. So the question of the “hidden treasure” is going to be one that many try to answer.
Are the two legendary Pokemon we’ll meet Paradox Pokemon somehow? Or is there something within these two new areas that will tie back to Area Zero and get players to return to the crater to see what lies within once more?
It’s hard to say, so we must wait and see. Thankfully, both DLC will arrive this year, barring delays. Part 1 will arrive in the Fall, and Part 2 will arrive this winter.
