Hogwarts Legacy Will Not support Preload For PC

February 6, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

WB Games continues to refrain from preloading on PC platforms.

Hogwarts Legacy is nearly upon us, and quite a few fans are eager to dive into the game. However, if you were hopeful that preloading would become an option on PC, then you’re out of luck. Despite the game launching this week for both early access and the official launch date, fans might be waiting a bit longer to enjoy this game. That’s, of course, if you’re on the PC platform. It looks like console platforms are given the preload feature treatment. So it can be a bit frustrating for PC players that will miss out on the initial release of this title.

We can offer some insight if you don’t know what preloading is. Preloading is a feature that allows players to download and install a video game early. This essentially allows players to start a game immediately when it becomes available. But, again, even though you have the title downloaded and installed on your platform, it won’t be accessible. Players are still forced to wait until the official launch to see their game unlocked. But it’s proven to be a popular feature as it eliminates the time it takes to download and install a game when it’s officially released.

Hello there, and thanks for reaching out to us! Currently there are no plans for a preload period for Hogwarts Legacy on PC. We're sorry for the inconvenience, but if you need anything else let us know!

With Hogwarts Legacy, the preload feature was something that players could gain access to on console platforms. But those on PC have been left without the ability to preload. It was noted early on that there were no plans for PC preloading, and after fan feedback, some might have been hopeful that this was changing. Unfortunately, thanks to a recent tweet from the official WB Games Support Twitter account, that’s not happening. WB Games Supported noted that there are no plans for a preload period regarding Hogwarts Legacy on the PC platform.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to download and install the game when it becomes available. This also includes those with early access, which is scheduled for tomorrow, February 7, 2023. Meanwhile, those just picking up the game at launch will be waiting to download and install the title on February 10, 2023. Regardless, fans are very close to starting their own magical journey as a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. When February 10, 2023, rolls around, players will find the game available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.

Meanwhile, those of you who are on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms will be waiting until April 4, 2023. Likewise, those on Nintendo Switch will be waiting a bit longer as the game will be arriving for you on July 25, 2023. In the meantime, you can watch the official launch trailer for Hogwarts Legacy in the video embedded above.
