Fans of the Gears franchise have been waiting a good little while now on a new mainline entry. The series has spanned multiple years and five mainline installments. With Gears 5 released back in 2019, there are some fans still waiting on the developers to bring out a new installment. Now according to one industry insider, the development for Gears 6 has already begun production since last year. That should hopefully mean we’ll get some kind of an official announcement regarding Gears 6 entering development for fans of the franchise.
This news comes from industry insider Jeff Grubb who took to Twitter today. Jeff noted that he believes Gears 6 started development last year. Unfortunately, that’s all the information shared regarding the future of the Gears franchise. With Gears 5 leaving off with our protagonist Kait Diaz, we’re assuming the next installment will continue with her storyline. But since this game just went into development, if the source is to be believed, it might be a good while before we get that continuation. With no official announcement regarding Gears 6, the developers are not in any rush to get this game out the door.
Regardless, this should hopefully excite Gears fans, as we haven’t had a new mainline installment since 2019. With that said, there might be some push to see some kind of a remastered collection released before Gears 6. With Gears of War first starting out back in 2006, there’s a good chance quite a few potential fans might have missed out on this franchise altogether. We have also heard rumors of a remastered collection coming out, but again no official details have yet to be unveiled.
Still, if you want to catch up on the story of Gears of War and continue on with the narrative when Gears 6 does release, that remastered collection could be useful. For now, it’s a waiting game to see what exactly the future holds for the Gears franchise, whether that’s a remastered collection unveiling or the confirmation of Gears 6.
