Horizon Call of the Mountain Developers Introduces The Game’s Protagonist

January 30, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

A story of atonement.

The Horizon franchise has been a big one for Sony. After Guerrilla Games delivered Horizon Zero Dawn, fans couldn’t get enough of this world. Players were tossed into the distant future where humanity has fallen, with little left of society resorting back to old tribes and the basics of survival. Meanwhile, the apex of this world has become mechanical beasts. Little is known of the time when mankind thrived and the cities flourished before nature took over. This setting has players taking the role of a young female warrior named Aloy as she embarks on some grand adventures.

While Aloy has taken the lead in two Horizon titles so far, she won’t be the protagonist for Horizon Call of the Mountain. Instead, this new upcoming PlayStation VR2 title will follow a new protagonist named Ryas. Today, thanks to a post from the PlayStation Blog, we’re given just a little bit more insight into Ryas. It’s said that this game follows the Carja tribe after it was split when their mad Sun-King Jiran was overthrown by his son Avad. This event sparked a new devoted tribe to Jiran was formed and became known as the Carja in Shadow. Ryas were one of the warriors that left with the group but had a change of heart.

Wishing to atone for his past work under Jiran and regain honor, Ryas returns to Carja and allows him to be captured. Fortunately for Ryas, his life was spared by the new king, Jiran’s son Avad. Allowing his return to the tribe would be granted, but Ryas would need to do one task for them. A new threat has emerged, and it’s up to Ryas to uncover more information. Having the necessary skills to get the job done, players will venture out and begin their journey of redemption.

Fortunately, this is a launch title for the PlayStation VR2. So those of you who have the new virtual reality headset pre-ordered can dive into the next Horizon chapter on February 22, 2023. Although, if you haven’t pre-ordered the new headset, you’ll want to keep in mind that this device will still require a PlayStation 5 console. So to enjoy this game, you’re going to need both the headset along with the console platform. While we wait for the game to release into the marketplace, you can check out the game trailer for Horizon Call of the Mountain in the video we have embedded above.
