Anticipation is one of the “natural states” for video gamers. Why? Because it seems like we’re always waiting on something to arrive in one form or another. It can be a new game release or a new batch of DLC that we can’t wait to try. Or it could be something like a patch that we’re waiting on so we can enjoy a game again. Then, of course, there are the new consoles that we want to buy so we can try out the “next big gaming experience. For Octopath Traveler II, it’s coming out in a month, and many gamers are excited about that.
Right off the bat, the game will be a bit different from the original title. The first game came out exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, then was ported to PC. But with Octopath Traveler II, the game is launching on multiple platforms right out of the gate. More than likely, Square Enix is doing this because they remember how well the original game did on Switch and how well it did on PC once it was ported, so they’re hedging their bets and giving it to almost everyone immediately. Online, some fans are more excited than others:
It’s a bit of a stretch to want “everyone” to talk about it, but that’s not to say that no one is talking about it. The game is highly-anticipated, especially by those who loved the first game. In the comments section of the above tweet, many people chimed in to let their thoughts be heard.
One commenter said that the game has the potential to be the “best JRPG of the year,” which is a high bar to clear but not an impossible one. The first game was an incredibly quality title from the graphics, gameplay, and story standpoint. But, of course, sequels try to top their predecessors, so that’s not an unreasonable thing to ask for.
Others noted that they loved the first game and feel the second will be just as great! Some even said it was their “most anticipated” game of 2023! So there’s plenty of love out there for the game, and if you haven’t watched the trailers for the title, you really should.
The game will give players eight new stories via eight new protagonists. But, just as important, there will be new side stories where the characters come together to tackle new missions.
Add that to the exploration aspect; there will be plenty to do when the game arrives on February 24th.
