FromSoftware surprised Armored Core fans during this year’s The Game Awards event. The series had remained dormant since 2013 with the release of Armored Core: Verdict Day, a sequel to the 2012 release of Armored Core V. Developed under FromSoftware, the studio had since pivoted away from the IP. Instead of dabbling more into the mech-focused title, the studio opted to release more installments for the Dark Souls franchise, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring. These are games that have made FromSoftware incredibly popular with players all around the world.
But as mentioned, it was during The Game Awards 2022 that FromSoftware revealed that they were bringing the Armored Core franchise back. In 2023 we will be receiving Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. If you thought that FromSoftware was going to bring over some elements found in their Souls games, then you would be wrong. Developers have expressed that this is a game that will be familiar to fans who have been passionate about the earlier Armored Core titles. Today, we’re finding out that an interview with IGN and the game director, Masaru Yamamura, confirmed a single-player narrative-driven storyline.
Players will go through the campaign as a solo experience. That means you can’t expect your friends to hop into the game and help you out. Likewise, you shouldn’t expect players to randomly join your game campaign and attempt to battle you as you progress. When it comes to the narrative, players are going to be duking it out with others on Rubicon 3, a distant planet. This planet contains a new energy source with mega-corporations seeking to control this energy resulting in some intense skirmishes.
Of course, if you’re looking for a bit more competition, then there is a multiplayer component. You just won’t find this multiplayer component within the campaign. Instead, there will be a battle arena where players can fight against each other. Essentially, players can try out their customized mechs to see how they will handle a battle. Unfortunately, we only have one teaser trailer, which was used during The Game Awards 2022. So we’ll have to wait a bit longer before we can see more of the gameplay in action. Although, you can view the trailer for the game featured from The Game Awards in the video embedded above. With that said, when this game launches sometime in 2023, we should see it available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.
