Science Lets You Play Mario by Flexing Your Guns

December 19, 2011 by Elizabeth DeLoria

I’m so sick of all those bullies pushing me onto the sand at the beach when I’m trying to impress my sweet heart. If only there was a way to work out my muscles and play games at the same time! Oh, wait – there is.

I’m so sick of all those bullies pushing me onto the sand at the beach when I’m trying to impress my sweetheart. If only there was a way to work out my muscles and play games at the same time! Oh, wait – there is.

Biomedical super heroes Advancer Technologies have created a USB Biofeedback game controller that reads the movement and output of your muscles – which can be used to play video games.

As displayed in the video, the game is controlled by tensing different muscles, making mario jump and run. Advancer hopes this technology can be used to to help treat patients with neuromuscular disease or injury.

As if this wasn’t cool enough, Advancer has even provided instructions for those wanting to create the controller themselves, should your motive be to impress beach babes or just to create something pretty damned impressive. Imagine a game of TF2 using these controls – you’d turn into Thor.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go play Mario using butt-clenches.
