Good news for Australian gamers, and even better news for those who got landed with one of those mainly useless T-Box doohickeys – Australia could quite possibly be getting a streaming games service.
According to a report by The Australian, Telstra could be planning to launch a subscription-based streaming games service by the end of next year. Apparently, the service will make use of the T-Box digital set-top box, and will allow you to stream games right to your TV.
The report also indicates that Telstra is looking at on-demand video services that could rival Quickflix, as well as a subscription music service.
However, Telstra told Gamespot AU that while they’re working on a game streaming service, it’s still pretty far off. "The story in [The Australian] made it sound like that service was much closer than it really is," a Telstra spokesperson said.. "It is still at the concept stage."
