Jay And Silent Bob And The Adventure Of The Crowdfunded Videogame

February 23, 2016 by Patrick Lindsey

’90s pop culture icons crowdfund their own video game.

Jay and Silent Bob Chronic Blunt Punch
Greetings, you intrepid time travelers from 2002. I come in peace, and bearing glad tidings! The ambassadors of your era, Jay and Silent Bob, are being given starring roles in a video game of their very own.

The game is called Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch, just in case you were unclear as to whether or not this was in fact that Jay and Silent Bob (it is). Chronic Blunt Punch is a side-scrolling beat-em-up, possibly as an appropriate throwback to the ’90s era of movies like Clerks. Fans of the flash-in-the-pan Clerks Animated Series will be pleased to know that developer Interabang Entertainment are borrowing heavily from that series for the game’s art style.

“Kevin Smith’s films have long inspired our team,” said Interabang founder Justin Woodward.  “During development for our first game, we’d take breaks to watch them back to back. The iconic characters, hilarious dialogue, and sheer surrealism of the Askew-niverse got us through rough patches during development and life’s struggles. We kept coming back to thinking about how amazing it would be to see Jay and Silent Bob in a game like the ones we design, and we’re amazed that we have this opportunity now.”

The opportunity in question is Interabang’s crowdfunding campaign, launched on Fig.co, which as of this writing, has raised around 10 percent of its $400k goal. The campaign features a reward-tier structure, with reward levels ranging from a $1 pledge nabbing you a “thank-you” from the game’s creators, to a hefty $10,000 commitment that will land you a spot in Kevin Smith’s next movie.
