One Piece: Burning Blood Gets New Character, Trailer

February 23, 2016 by Patrick Lindsey

Blackbeard joins the Burning Blood roster as a playable character.

One Piece: Burning Blood Blackbeard
Fans of the hit anime One Piece have been anxiously awaiting the release of the upcoming One Piece: Burning Blood. The fighting game, developed by Spike Chunsoft, is being published by Bandai Namco Entertainment in Japan on April 21, just in time for PAX East. A May 31 release in North America follows, with Europe seeing the game hit store shelves June 3.

Bandai Namco have been far from shy when it comes to pre-release information on the game’s features and roster, and today they let fly word that a new playable character has joined the game’s already impressive roster of fighters. Fans can now look forward to battling it out as Marshall D. Teach, better known as Blackbeard. Blackbeard marks the 39th playable character announced for the game thus far.

In addition to the new character announcement, Bandai Namco also released a story trailer for One Piece: Burning Blood. This video introduces the Marineford Arc, which fans of the series will likely be familiar with so I won’t embarrass myself by trying to comprehend it enough to explain it here. Today’s new trailer was released in English, so all of you American and European otaku can check it out:

Anime News Network reported that a collector’s edition will be available in North America and Europe. This edition will feature the game, an art book, and a figurine of character Whitebeard [even though technically it’s a moustache not a beard, but I’ll let it slide]. Europeans can nab this collector’s edition on any console, but in America it will be available for PlayStation4 only.
