Good news for Quake fans in the wonderful land of Germany – the game has been removed from Germany’s indexed list.
The 1996 classic developed by id Software, has finally been removed from Germany’s list of indexed titles. This category was created by the Federal Deparment for Media Harmful to Young Persons (BPjM,) and being on this list means that up until now, Quake has been the commercial equivalent to porn.
Themes and content that can land media on the indexed list include incitements to hate or violence against a group of people, content which glorifies war, glorification or trivialization of violence and content which denies the holocaust. Once a game is indexed, it cannot be purchased or viewed by minors and can only be sold in a shop – so this means they can’t be bought or sold online in most cases.
This follows Doom and Doom 2 being recently removed from the list. According the Bethesda software, who’s parent company acquired id Software way back in 2009, the appeal of an indexing as allowed after 10 years.
