Electronic Arts and Marvel Games will be building on the foundations about to be set by their upcoming Iron Man project. In a new deal announced today, the two studios are entering into a long-term partnership. A new update from EA confirms the new deal, which will be a “multi-title collaboration” to create games for consoles and PC.
The new partnership will deal specifically in the development of action-adventure games. Fans of the iconic characters and stories from the Marvel franchise will be pleased to learn that each new title will feature original stories set within the Marvel universe. The new, multi-title deal will produce “at least three” new games, the first of which will be the previously announced single-player, third-person action-adventure game Iron Man, which is currently in the works at EA Motive.
Alongside an update on EA and Marvel Games’ plans for future titles, some additional information about the upcoming Iron Man game has also been revealed. Fans of the beloved character should have plenty to look forward to if EA’s latest update is anything to go by. As with the other planned titles, the new Iron Man adventure will “feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of the character, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man,” according to EA.
However, aside from the early PR for the game, it seems like we might be waiting a while for further updates. Jay Ong, Executive Vice President at Marvel Games, explains that although the excitement and passion for the game are at a high, it’s still early days for the title’s development. “The team at Motive is getting started on that with their Iron Man video game and we can’t wait for players to learn more in the far future,” they say.
There’s also some major mutual appreciation going on between EA and Marvel Games, which has clearly helped build the relationship leading up to today’s announcement. Laura Miele, COO at Electronic Arts also shared their enthusiasm for the newly-revealed partnership, explaining that EA “look forward to welcoming Marvel into the EA family of creators and know this collaboration will produce exceptional experiences for our players.”
It’ll be interesting to learn more about the future games that come out of this partnership. It’s worth remembering that there are a number of other Marvel games in the pipeline at other studios at the moment. Titles such as Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Marvel’s Wolverine and the recently-revealed Captain America and Black Panther game from Skydance New Media are all currently in development. This announcement from EA and Marvel Games will surely lead to new speculation about what kind of action-adventure titles fans can expect to see in the coming years. We’ll just have to watch this space to find out.
