German YouTuber Mashed8 has posted gameplay footage of Wake Island, one of the four classic Battlefield maps being reimagined for Battlefield 3 as part of the Back to Karkand DLC.
While the commentary won't help those of us without a strong grasp of the German language, there's still plenty on display here. You'll get some aerial footage, plenty of vehicle gameplay, and lots of feel for how destructible environments will change up the status quo.
From the looks of things, the changes to Wake Island are more than cosmetic. According to the commentary, both forces will be able to spawn on the Island right from the start of the match, whereas previously one team began on an aircraft carrier offshore. Additionally, the Conquest version of the map appears to only feature three control points, down from the old five. It's currently unclear whether this change will only apply to the console versions of the game, as the PC version supports larger maps and an increased player count.
Back to Karkand will be coming to all platforms sometime next month, with a timed-exclusivity deal granting PS3 players access a week before their 360 and PC counterparts. The DLC pack is free to anyone who's pre-ordered the game, but will set you back $15 bucks if you haven't.
