Today we got a Behind The Sims Summit Stream which gave us some exciting news…EA and Maxis officially announced The Sims 5 although the studios aren’t calling it the fifth one. There were rumors going around that The Sims would have an announcement in October and those rumors were different true.
This is the “next generation Sims game” getting the codename of Project Rene, which is a phrase that is “chosen to be reminiscent of words like renewal, renaissance, and rebirth to represent the developer’s renewed commitment to The Sims’ bright future,” according to the official press release that happened today at the live. Fans and writers are still proceeding to call the project Sims 5 though.
During The Behind The Sims Summit Stream, we got a “very early behind-the-scenes” look at the game and what this Sims 5 will grow to be, and that it will definitely give in to those who enjoy building in the game. You will be able to change the size of objects, but also their patterns, colors, and even shapes which is something many games like the Sims have already been doing so it is nice to see it catching up. There will also be advanced placement tools that we saw in a brief clip during the live. Cushions were being rotated, titled, and moved in different ways that we haven’t been able to do but only with Sims 4 cheats which often seemed to mess up the actual gameplay.
There is also a thing where Sims 5 will offer Simmers a choice to play solo or collaborate with others across “supported devices.” However, there’s not much announcement on there and how EA and Maxis will have that setup at this point in time. It also seems you can even pull build items from the game on your mobile device and it can be reflected in-game on every platform it is connected to which is something we haven’t seen done yet in a Sims game. We are unsure if Sims 5 will be cross-play or how exactly multiplayer will work, there aren’t many details going around about it time but the journey with The Sims 5 will happen “over the next few years.”
“As Maxis continues to think about The Sims for a new generation – across platforms in a cloud-enabled world – you should imagine that, while we will always stay true to our inspiration, escape, creation, and self-improvement motivations, that this notion of social interactions and competition – like the kind of things that were actually present in The Sims Online many, many years ago – that they will start to become part of the ongoing Sims experience in the years to come.”
