Bugs are pretty much expected with big game releases, and XCOM 2 is no exception. According to reports from players, the game runs poorly on a lot of PCs. Poor performance can range from small issues like frame-rate drops to bigger problems like characters’ limbs disappearing. Many of those players experiencing problems have posted about their experiences on XCOM 2‘s forums. Indeed, 2K’s boards seem to be flooded with various player problems.
“[Jane Kelly] was fine until I tried to customize the appearance of her armor,” writes 2K forum member Warspectre. “After that, her arms and legs went away and wouldn’t come back even after a reload.” While these kinds of bugs seems to be severe, it’s only a matter of time until the developers fix them. Remember all of Fallout 4‘s problems?
Another major glitch seems to be that pressing the Caps Lock key while the game loads after completing a mission will take you back to base and reduce loading time. Firaxis reported that hitting Caps Lock forces all load requests to fill immediately in one frame which, although more convenient for you, could also lead to the game crashing.
2K already seems to be on the case, as they posted an official statement on the forums: “We are aware some players have experienced performance issues while playing XCOM 2, and we are looking into them and gathering more information from users,” they wrote. “We want everyone to have the best experience possible, and will continue supporting the title with upcoming patches.” Their statement includes a list of troubleshooting tips for PC players.
There you have it. If you’re experiencing any kind of XCOM 2 bugs, the best temporary solution is to post about them on the official forums and wait for the company to address them: make sure to note what the issue is, when it occurs, how to recreate it, and what your system specs are.
XCOM 2 debuted February 6 for PC via Steam.
