Tomb Raider fans will be pleased to learn that Graham King’s reboot of the series might not be a complete failure.
King, who’s work as a producer includes The Departed, Rango and World War Z (which is currently in post production,) says that the reboot will be an origins story akin to Batman Begins and Casino Royale.
“Listen, the box office, they weren't disasters but I find it interesting that the story that we're telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece.” He told Coming Soon in an interview. “It does have a lot of really great characters, but it's a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it's something very different.”
While it’s been confirmed that Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, the script writers behind Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens, will be working on the film, actress Jaimie Alexender has expressed her interest in playing Lara Croft.
"I've obviously been hearing about a Tomb Raider reboot, which I think would be pretty awesome — Lara Croft. Anything that's very physical. … I would love to pursue Lara Croft." Alexander, notable for her role as Sif in Marvel’s Thor, told Movieline. "I'm not going to try and be Angelina Jolie, she's her own woman, and she did a fantastic job as Lara Croft. If that opportunity arises for me, then I would put my own spin on Lara Croft. There's no way I would try and copy what she did.”
With rumors that Olivia Wilde could also be in the running to play Croft, this could turn out to be a very interesting reboot, indeed.
